Larissa Muirhead
Artist · Writer · Educator · Nurse · Environmental Advocate
Larissa Muirhead’s work begins with relationship — to land, creativity, community and personal wellbeing. Based in northern Saskatchewan, she moves between art, writing, nursing education, environmental advocacy and land-based experiences, using each as a different way of helping people pay closer attention to themselves and the places they inhabit.

Knowledge & practice
What Larissa carries
- 01
Creative Practice & Nature Journaling
Using drawing, painting, writing and observation as ways of slowing down and developing a more attentive relationship with place. Larissa’s creative practice treats making less as an exercise in producing finished work and more as a method for noticing, reflecting and connecting.
- 02
Land-Based Learning
Learning becomes different when it happens outside. Larissa creates experiences that use direct encounters with water, plants, forests and muskegs to build curiosity, connection and responsibility toward the places people live.
- 03
Holistic Health & Wellbeing
Larissa’s nursing background informs an understanding of health that reaches beyond isolated symptoms. Her work explores connections between personal wellbeing, creativity, community, time outside and the environments that sustain us.
- 04
Muskegs & Boreal Stewardship
Northern Saskatchewan’s muskegs are complex living systems supporting water, plants, wildlife, carbon storage, food and medicine. Through For Peat’s Sake, Larissa works to help people encounter these landscapes, understand their importance and participate in protecting them.
- 05
Community Art & Collaborative Learning
Creative work can become a way for communities to explore complicated questions together. Larissa’s collaborative projects bring art, storytelling, education and environmental issues into shared spaces where people can participate rather than simply observe.
About Larissa
Pay attention to the place that is holding you.
Larissa’s practice resists separating creativity, health and the natural world into different parts of life. Painting can become a way of noticing. Writing can help make sense of experience. Time on the land can change how we understand health, community and our responsibility to place. Her work is particularly rooted in northern Saskatchewan and the boreal landscape — not simply as scenery, but as a place to learn from, care for and build relationships within. Through teaching, collaborative art, environmental advocacy and land-based experiences, she creates opportunities for people to slow down, become curious and participate more intentionally in the places around them.
Larissa Muirhead is an artist, writer, nurse, educator and environmental advocate based in Air Ronge, Saskatchewan. Her creative practice is rooted in the boreal landscape and explores land, connection and teaching through painting, storytelling and community engagement.
