We record people, places and practices carefully, in their own terms, so the knowledge holds up long after the conversation ends.

About
Lasting Embers is an archive and a practice. We document knowledge worth preserving and create the conditions for it to be carried forward — through documentary stories, field learning, shared knowledge and meaningful making.

The work
We spend time with people who know something deeply, in the places that shape that knowledge. We listen, learn, document and help it travel further.
Documentary stories

We record people, places and practices carefully, in their own terms, so the knowledge holds up long after the conversation ends.
Explore storiesField learning

Some knowledge only transfers in person, in place. We create time in the field with the people who work there.
Explore experiencesShared knowledge

What is documented is shaped into learning that someone else can actually use.
Explore learningMeaningful making

Knowledge stays alive when it is practised. We support the work of making, growing, building and tending.

A story is not the end of the work. What we learn moves into experiences, teaching, making and the archive so it can continue to be useful.

From the archive
The archive follows practical knowledge back to its context: the people who carry it, the places that shape it and the patient work through which it is learned.

Why this exists
Lasting Embers grew out of years of filmmaking and teaching, and a belief that there is value in slowing down. In a world that moves quickly, we create space for closer looking, deeper learning and more meaningful connections — with people, with place and with the knowledge that can help us live well.
